Have you ever thought about your future impact on society as an engineer, scientist or in any other role? How about the responsibilities you might carry in the future? The "Dilemma of the Month" is a series of monthly, informal gatherings, which are designed to be an open space for you to explore, share and discuss your opinions and thoughts on a given topic with others. Everyone including non-CS and non-students is welcome to join :)
This month's edition will be on "Data as Currency: How much is your privacy worth?" Humanity creates tons of data each day. As computer science students we are heavily involved in if, why and how this data is collected, sold, processed and where it ends up being used. In this dilemma of the month, we want to invite you to join us for an interesting discussion on how working with data could and should look. We will talk about past and current political trends and real world scenarios but also invite you to our open and safe space to reflect on, share, and discuss your opinions on our pathway into the future.
Here's a sneak peek into possible questions¹ you can tinker with:
- How much are you willing to sell your data for as a user of a service or product?
- How much control do you want the state or companies exert on your data?
- What are best practices for companies or researchers in your opinion?
