AI Agents 101 with JetBrains: From Fundamentals to Your First AI Agent
How does an AI coding agent actually work? In this workshop, we’ll start with the fundamentals of LLMs and tool calling, then work through the implementation of a simple coding agent.
We’ll focus on harness engineering: building the application around the model that manages context, executes tools, and controls the agent’s workflow. Through a code walkthrough and practical experiments, we’ll see how an agent reads code, takes action, checks the results, and decides what to do next. We’ll modify its instructions and tools to understand how these choices affect its behaviour.
By the end, you’ll understand the core components of a coding agent and how to adapt a simple implementation for your own experiments. Basic programming knowledge is enough; no previous experience building AI agents is required.
