Dilemma of the Month
Event start time 16.5.2025 12:15
Event end time 16.5.2025 13:00
Have you ever thought about your future impact on society as an engineer, scientist or in any other role? How about the responsibilities you might carry in the future? The "Dilemma of the Month" is a series of monthly, informal gatherings, which are designed to be an open space for you to explore, share and discuss your opinions and thoughts on a given topic with others. Everyone including non-CS and non-students are welcome to join :)
This month's edition will be on "Is technological progress also social progress?" At ETH, we are frequently confronted with technological progress and you might eventually contribute or are already contributing to how technology will shape our future society. At the same time, you will be part of this future society! In this event, we want to ask you about your perception of "progress" from different perspectives, and how it relates to your visions as an engineer or scientist and your visions of the society you want to live in. We invite you to our open and safe space to reflect on, share, and discuss your opinions on our pathway into the future.
Here's a sneak peek into possible questions¹ you can tinker with:
- What is "progress" for you?
- How does your personal "progress" relate to technological or social progress?
- What is your initial motivation for your work or studies—advancing the frontiers of technology or promoting social well-being?
- Does progress always come in form of improvements?
