Space technology affects all aspects of our lives - it's used to predict the weather, to observe the planet, to navigate and to communicate. In this talk we will explore the new space revolution and dive into the incredible opportunities (video calls from your smartphone via satellite?) and risks (Kessler syndrome anyone?) it represents. Finally, we will think about what role Europe can play in the increasingly contested and congested space domain. Building upon the presentation “Space – The Final Frontier?” we invite you to a workshop where you can combine theory and practice, giving you insight into the world of consulting whilst drawing upon your technical backgrounds and experience. You can attend the workshop without attending the presentation, but the two are best enjoyed together. You are faced with the following scenario: Your client is the government of a medium sized European country looking to expand its space capabilities (civilian/research and security). You will create teams, each focusing on different aspects of the desired space capability. You have limited resources and time to achieve these capabilities. Describe how the government you are advising should proceed: What is the current state of the art? Who are the actors? Should you buy, make or lease capabilities? What are the risks (technical, financial, political) associated with your approach? Short and long term considerations? Cost? Optical Imagery Radar Imagery SATCOM PNT (Positioning, Navigation, Timing) SSA (Space Situational Awareness) ... Supplies: Laptop Following a general introduction, you will form teams and prepare a presentation on your chosen topic. The workshop concludes with a presentation to the group, where you present your arguments for the chosen approach. Good luck!
Additional slots might become available later on. Please use the waiting list!
