VIS x EPAM: Developing and managing an Open-Source project as a sole developer
Event start time 10.10.2024 18:15
Event end time 10.10.2024 20:15
Working on open-source software is fun and fulfilling.
However, it presents challenges beyond just writing code: managing release lifecycles, tracking bugs, handling documentation, and communicating with a (potential) community.
Learn from EPAM how these tasks are handled in one of their projects, what the challenges are, and how to best balance the formalities of the process with the needs of a small development team. EPAM is a globally operating company specializing in application development and long-term lifecycle management. They are also one of the founding members of the MACH Alliance, an advocacy group promoting open systems and standards.
The Speaker: Andrea Biscuola
Systems Engineer at EPAM. He develops open-source software more as a learning opportunity than anything else. He worked at Zabbix, where he contributed to the development of the open-source codebase for infrastructure monitoring software. As a programmer by training, he can share experiences from working on software both on a global scale and locally.
